Turkey is one of the destinations on this trip where you can’t help but smile knowing that is on the route. As well as being a nutritious form of poultry, Turkey is also a delicious looking country. Historically significant, Turkey is home to two of the seven classical wonders of the ancient world, as well as the Biblical Mount Ararat and the site of the Trojan Wars. Slightly more recently, it was from Turkey that coffee was introduced to continental Europe. Boasting one of the most popular and distinctive cuisines in the world, the food lovers in the team will have to be careful here not to overindulge.
The boys have grudgingly gotten over the fact that Iran knocked Australia out of the 1998 World Cup qualifiers. It has taken time, but they are now resolved that one of the real highlights of the trip will be the ride into Iran‘s capital, Tehran. To the border of Pakistan will be a very different story, as the team will face a largely uninhabited area as they ride through the deserted plains and mountains to reach Kurumb. Daniel will have to pack away his football shorts for this section, because you never see tight clothing in Iran and dressing to local sensibilities will ensure you get the full friendly treatment for which Iran is famous for among travelers.
